Parties and Friends

Yesterday night was Kaingin’s acquaintance party entitled “Kaingin Goes Retro”. Kaingin is an socially-aware organization in the Ateneo where we tutor public school kids. *sigh* Public schools here are downright pitiful. There’s a serious lack of classrooms, books, chairs, everything else. Classes are held beside the canteen just to accomodate them all the students. The books are so outdated and even the grade four kids don’t know how to multiply, let alone divide. The public school buildings are so dilapidated and the environment is really not conducive for learning.

Anyway, the acquaintance party was held at BF Homes clubhouse. Obviously, the theme is retro. The place was decorated nicely, and all the people were in 70s outfits. :bleh: Although hunbun’s hawaiian shirt didn’t fit in with the party. *lol* The committee heading the event really prepared. Except for the catering service and food which was inedible. The games were really original but were too rambunctious for my taste. I prefer nice parlor games. Hunbun won a lot of prizes for games which were too weird for me. Okey, so I didn’t have that much fun. But I did enjoy the conversations I had with my friends. I love catching up on their lives. And I did enjoy the disco dancing.

Neal, Dianne, hunbun, and I left the party at about 10:30pm. We headed straight to McDonalds to eat because the food was really horrible. :bleh: I ordered a BBQ burger meal. *yummy* During the car ride to Dianne’s apartment and Neal’s house, we gossiped a lot and gossiped some more. *haha*

Hm… I was on YM the other night with one of my close friends. I even considered her my best friend. We were inseparable during high school. But now we go to different colleges so we we’re not that close anymore. I’m feeling sad and really lonely because she has a new best friend now. I’m glad though that she’s well-adjusted in her new school but I can’t help feeling like I’ve lost a very special part of my life. *sigh* I miss the special sisterly bond we had.

Oh wow! Tutoring public school kids?! Asteeg! I wanan do that! I came from a public school, and I must admit that you’re right. There’s a serious lack of everything. But I really admire those kids studying in public schools coz they’re strong-willed. Most of them anyway. And I love retro! Yay!!! Hehe! *sighs* I miss my high school friends in QueSci tuloy..Ugh…

hi, i’m back. yes, the public schools in the phils are in bad shape, and it’s a shame that education is a privilege in there, not a basic human right. until the majority of the people (who, let’s face it, can’t afford good education) are educated, we will not progress — ignorant people = ignorant votes, am i right? i also felt that way when i was in college and my high school friends and i had ‘drifted apart’, but i still keep in touch with some of them… the key is to find new things to talk about and not just be stuck in the past. it only really gets difficult when one has ‘grown up’ and the other hasn’t. the friendship you’ll have will be even deeper if you get to get past the first months of awkwardness.

You tutored public school kids? That’s very nice. It’s sad that our educational system in the country is not as good with the lack of books, chairs, teachers, and facilities. Quite sad.

Seems like that party is so cool! Retro! Lol. Aww… I know how you feel about your best friend that she has a new one already. It’s sad when your best friend changes schools.

I dressed up as a Columbian Cartel Drug Lord that time… haha well, I have no idea what a 70’s person would look like so I brought a Hawaiian shirt and it turns out Hawaiian was LAST years theme! Hehe! Oh well you can’t blame me I wasn’t into all that “retro” anyway! I would prefer a decent and less loud party like the slumber party!
Well, we were pretty much tired afterwards but Bun didn’t eat because it was chicken so I treated her to a late night McDonalds snack!
By the way, seems like more and more people are being”captivated” by Bunchie’s Blog! She’s simply so great huh!
